minutes by vehicle. The name "Chora" originally means outside of the
city, countryside. This name given, maybe, to a small church built long
before the construction of the city walls of Rome in the 5th century has

current small building is dated between the 11th and 14th centuries. As
well as its dynamic outer architecture, its interior mosaic and fresco
decorations are regarded as Renaissance masterpieces of Byzantium art.

collection since its opening on June 13, 1891. Currently, on the ground
halls of the Archaeology Museum, it is possible to see the sculptures of
the Ancient Age from the Archaic Era to the Roman Era on the right
side, and the world famous unique artifacts such as the Alexander
Sarcophagus, the Sarcophagus of the Crying Women and the Sarcophagus of
Tabnit which came from the Royal Necropolis in Sidon on the left side.
Whereas on the upper floor of the two-story building, there are the
Treasury section, the Non-Islamic and Islamic Coin Cabinets and the
Library.
